The boring (but possibly important) thing to consider will be copyright and who owns the ideas. As this is based on the GG Universe then all the characters, setting etc, are going to be the property of Studio Foglio, so it's unlikely that this is ever going to be a commercial proposition. I know that Studio Foglio tried to make a GG RPG but I don't think it ever came to anything. If we do come up with anything good, then we could always consider getting a licence from them, but this is going to be more trouble than it is worth.
I would propose that we make everything on the site public domain and waive any copyright we might have in the ideas we post here. So if we do have any ideas that someone might want to give you money for, then they should not be posted on this site.
As we are not making money, but only posting here for our own amusement, it means we can nick take inspiration from the best bits of all the other RPGs out there.
What do people think?
Edit: Thinking about it, we should have a statement that nothing from this site can be reproduced without permission. We wouldn't want anyone to nick our ideas and make them into a game of their own. Of course, people can use the rules for personal use, otherwise they won't be able to pay the game.

Copyright is important, as little as I think about it.... Creative Commons could work.
and I was thinking of at least robbing taking inspiration from GURPS and Dungeons & Dragons, though I wasn't sure how

Creative Commons could work. and I was thinking of at least robbing taking inspiration from GURPS and Dungeons & Dragons, though I wasn't sure how D&D is basically d20 Open GL.... or at least the other way 'round. D&D has evolved a bit from when they originally made the Open Source stuff... GURPS isn't a bad system either, once you get used to all the percentages....

D&D 5th edition is the one that did things the best, I think. It's also what I know the most about. ....I don't know too much about non-D&D roleplaying systems, to be honest.

Then Pathfinder made some improvements, and is just now starting to leave the rails itself... which means that D&D 5, which borrowed heavily from Pathfinder, but merged with the D&D worlds, is currently probably the best it's ever been. however, we won't be able to use ALL of D&D 5. but d20 OGL comes really close.

When I started playing D&D it came in a red box. I'm still playing 2e (except for the wizard, who is too mean to upgrade, so he's still playing 1e (advanced). I'm also in a 4e game. 5e looks to be a good system, but the 4e group, having bought all the 4e books, have no intention of forking out more money for 5e. Sounds like we should use D&D as a model.
Never took to 3e / Pathfinder. I'm in it for the role playing (and blowing stuff up). Complicated rules might be more realistic, but they slow the story down too much.

D&D is a very good role model, especially 5E. Its system is very simple, and focuses more on roleplaying than 4th or 3rd.
now... what elements of D&D will we assimilate? hm...

I can't really believe I'm suggesting this... I'm a Polyhedral gamer. I still have my original d20...
And, yet, steampunkfitters has a complete, free, steampunk rpg system. It is simple, elegant, and is....
(whispers) diceless.....
